Q:  What is an Enduro Mountain Bike Race?

A:  An Enduro Mountain Bike Race typically consist of anywhere from 3-6 timed stages of racing.  The timed stages are traditionally downhill that can vary in steepness, technicality, and length.  Between each stage, there is what is referred to as a ‘Transition’ – which is simply the section of trail between the finish of one stage to the start of the next stage.  Transitions are not timed, but there is often a very generous limit on how long it should take one to get from the finish line of one stage to the start line of the next stage.  At the end of the race, the recorded times from all stages are totaled up to give the racer their overall time and rank amongst the rest of the participants.

Q:  Are the Weekday Enduro Series and the Weekend 1-Day Enduro the same format of racing?

A:  Yes and No.

  • The Weekday Enduro Series will race a single unique stage each week.  Each week, you’ll need to ‘transition’ to the start line of the race prior to your category’s start time (Start times can be found at the top of the Rider Info page).  You’ll start the race within your category’s designated start time window and each rider will wait 30 seconds behind the rider in front of them before they start their race run (30 second intervals).

  •    The Weekend 1-Day Enduro will follow the same format as the Weekday Enduro Series for the duration of 4 or 5 unique stages (each 4 of the Weekday Enduro Series stages will be included in the Amateur Weekend 1-Day Enduro. Pro/Open and Expert will race a 5th, bonus stage).

o   The unique exception to the Weekend 1-Day Enduro will be the ‘READY TO RACE’ format that riders will participate in for certain stages.  If the stage is a ‘READY TO RACE’ stage, racers can start the stage whenever they are ready to.  Please check out the Rider Info page for details.

Q: How many race runs do I get?

A: Just the 1 run for each stage…but you can practice ahead of time as much as you’d like.

Q: Where do I check in for the Weekday Series races?

A: Every Wednesday we will have a registration/check in table setup behind High Side! Bar and Grill from 3pm-5:30pm for you to pick up your number plate.  From there you will transition to the start line for that week’s designated stage.

Q: Do I need to check in each week if I’m racing the entire Weekday Series?

A: If you have already picked up your number plate for the 1st Week’s race, you do not need to check in for the following weeks and can use that same number plate for the rest of the series.  You simply need to transition to the start of the race each week in order to start within your designated category start time window.

Q: Where do I check in for the Weekend 1-Day?

We will have check in/number plate pickup at High Side! Bar and Grill on Friday April 26th from 6-9pm with a Mandatory Racer Meeting at 8pm.  If you will not be able to make this window, please reach out to us at info@salidaenduroseries.com so we can try and coordinate an alternative.

Q: What happens if I can’t make the check in/number plate pickup on Friday night?

Please email us at info@salidaenduroseries.com to let us know and we can coordinate with you for pickup Saturday morning between 7AM-9:30AM.

Q: Where do I start for the Weekday Series Stages?

A:  All of the stages are listed on salidaenduro.com under the ‘Stages’ tab.  There you can find maps, directions, and descriptions on where the start line for each week’s stage is located.

Q: Can I ride with my friends?

A: HECK YEAH!  That’s part of the fun.  You can always transition with whomever you’d like to as long as everyone can make it to the start line for their designated category start window.  Since riders need to start in individual 30 second intervals, you won’t be able to ride the race stage with your friends, but you can wait for them at the bottom so you can transition to the next stage together.

Q: Can I walk some sections of the transitions or race stages?

A: Absolutely.  Transitions are meant to get you to the top of the next stage, not completely deplete you of all of your energy.  If you have ample time, walking some sections of the transition is a great way to save some watts for the upcoming stage.

If you’re planning on walking sections of the ‘race stage’ please be cautious of other riders on course who may be behind you and planning on riding that same section.  If you are caught by the rider behind you, you are required to pull over when it is safe to do so.

Q: Can I drive myself or other race participants to any section of the race course?

Logistics difficulties aside, no participant is allowed to drive or be driven to any area on course (transition or race stage). All participants are required to start and finish the race under their own power.

Q: What if I’m super tired after the ‘transition’?

A: Take a breather!  As long as you have ample time to either start within your designated category start window, or you know you’ll be able to make it to the next stage in an appropriate amount of time, take some time to catch your breath, get some water, get some calories, and enjoy the views.  It’s beautiful up there!

Q: Can I return to my vehicle during a transition to get more water, food, or make a repair to my bike?

Heck yeah. Not a problem if you’re able to make it to your vehicle, get fueled up/fixed, and get back up to the start of the next stage prior to the stage’s cutoff time. We’ll also have a water station on course at parking lot located at the top of the Front Side Trail.

Q: Do I need to start with others in my ‘category’ after Stage 1?

A: Depends on the stage.  During the Weekend 1-Day Enduro, some stages will follow the ‘READY TO RACE’ format. For those stages, you can drop whenever you are ready. Just make sure that you’ve got enough time to transition to the next stage.  For details on which stages have category drop times or ‘READY TO RACE’ format, jump over to the Rider Info page.

Q: How long are the transitions?

A: They vary from about 2 miles to 4.6 miles.

Q: How long are the stages?

A: They vary from 1.5 miles to 2 miles in length.

Q: How much time do I get to transition from the end of a stage to the start of the next?

A: That will certainly vary from rider to rider, but most folks should have up to an hour to transition between each stage.

Q: Can I sign up the day of the Weekday Races?

You betcha!  We’ll be setup with a registration table behind High Side! Bar and Grill every Wednesday from 3pm-5:30pm for Day-Of registration.

Q: Can I sign up the day of the Weekend 1-Day?

A: Nope.  You can sign up for the Weekend 1-Day up until 9pm on Friday, April 26th at the High Side Grill.  After that, registration is closed so we can prep for the next morning.
